It's hard to
believe the fourth anniversary of America's awakening into the realities of
the world of terrorism has passed. We have all been shaken from what
we thought was our "Camelot" into the reality of a world where terrorism
with no military or strategic goal is leveled upon our brothers and sisters.
Please, never for one minute, believe that any of us can put another
country, religion or purpose in front of our great nation. Nor can we ever
drop the pursuit of those who would destroy our way of life.
As our Chapter was at the Vietnam Memorial in NJ, we as individuals or in
small groups, circled the upper level where the names of over a thousand of
our countrymen were listed by the day and year they died in service of our
country. Whether you believe in the wars we as a nation have been involved
in or not is irrelevant. These are the names of the people who have died to
give us the rights that we all take for granted. What makes us great is the
freedoms that wars and conflicts, whether right or wrong, have been fought
and paid for with the blood and souls of tens of thousands of Americans.
America is a great nation because we are a people who always try to take the
right path, we are quick to forget the crimes of other nations against us
but we are not without guilt. We hold our heads high and we may appear to be
arrogant but are the first to come to the aid of peoples and countries in
need. We are wealthy in every sense of the word but our greatest resource
and power is not in the global economy or in monetary ways but it's the
unlimited depth of us as Americans. We will always be the greatest nation
that God has blessed because we have boundless respect and love for each
other, let every man and nation take note you attack us for what we have
that was paid for with American blood and sweat and we will have no limits
to find you and bring you to justice.
Now about the ride. What can I say. It was one of the nicest rides to NJ I
have ever done. The Chapter rode like they were together for years (oops we
have been), I was impressed with the way we cruised thru traffic.
The BBQ was great! Excellent food! Great people! Another time to see what
STAR has to offer. I have to say that our Chapter 278 was the largest group
there, both in people attending and on bikes. Greg counted 34 bikes in the
parking lot at the BBQ and 14 were us.
The ride home was a little more trying. ( I think it had something to do
with the temp being around 90 and the Jersey Shore Traffic and Brooklynites.
We spent a lot of time looking at old hub caps bent chrome trim (you gotta
love the Belt Pkwy). Well obviously we made it safe and sound to exit 48.
